Queensland Events

MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF QUEENSLAND

I believe an event should be a real experience – it can inspire, excite and unite a community, share significant sporting, entertainment and cultural moments and memories, as well as deliver lucrative economic benefits to Queenslanders.

At Queensland Events, the charter is clear - to help drive the state’s economic development through strategic investment in an exciting, eclectic portfolio of events held throughout Queensland. The organisation is dedicated to attracting, supporting, growing and promoting events in Queensland.

Whether it is an international tournament attracting thousands of spectators and televised to millions worldwide, or a community festival in a small regional town organised by local volunteers, events help to drive and deliver economic and social development and prosperity.

Queensland Events was established by the Queensland Government in 1989 following the outstanding success of World Expo ’88. Queensland Events also operates a subsidiary company, Queensland Events Gold Coast - the owner and operator of the popular Gold Coast Airport Marathon and the biennial Pan Pacific Masters Games.

Managed under my personal portfolio, the organisation has successfully secured and invested in hundreds of world-class events for Queensland. It is estimated that these events have produced more than one billion dollars in additional revenue for the state’s economy.

In addition, the innovative Regional Development Program has ensured that benefits reach far beyond cities and into smaller communities throughout the state, with more than $10 million being invested in 500 regional events since the program started in 2001.

No matter where events are held in Queensland, they showcase the state’s scenic attractions and help boost tourism, attracting visitors before, during and after an event, as well as future tourists through regional, national and international marketing and promotional opportunities.

Whether you are considering a visit to Queensland or live in a local city or town, I encourage you to take advantage of the wonderful range of festivals, sporting celebrations, cultural exhibitions and other unique attractions happening around the State in the year ahead – it’s all part of the experience of a Queensland event.
