Queensland Events Regional Development Program
The Queensland Events Regional Development Program (QERDP) is an investment program that, by developing and supporting events, brings economic and social benefits to regional Queensland.
This state-wide initiative invests in events outside the Brisbane metropolitan area* that have the potential to boost local communities by bringing in business, creating jobs, attracting tourists and fuelling growth, prosperity and pride.
The QERDP supports events that bring economic and social benefits to their community by:
- increasing local economic activity and development
- enhancing the profile and appeal of the destination in which they are held
- enhancing the visitor experience, and
- demonstrating future growth and sustainability
Since the program commenced in 2001 more than $13.6 million has been invested in over 645 events throughout Queensland. Events supported are as diverse as music and art festivals, camel races, foodie extravaganzas, fishing contests and cultural celebrations. They show off the colour and character of our state while ensuring its economic health.
The QERDP team works closely with event organisers to ensure the best outcomes for the event and the region. Organisers are encouraged to form strategic partnerships, develop progressive business and marketing plans and consider the sustainable success of their event. Clear performance targets are part of every event’s agreement with QERDP.
Successful events play a vital role in economic and social prosperity of Queensland’s regional communities. Potential applicants are encouraged to read Applying for Funding for more relevant information.
*Events that take place within the City of Brisbane local authority area are excluded from this program. (Brisbane City Council provides assistance to art/cultural events through relevant funding programs.)
